In an official statement, NYCN confirmed receiving credible reports that these individuals are exploiting the trust of Katsina youths to mislead them. It was alleged that they are falsely claiming to be conducting an official election within the council’s chapter in the state.
To address the situation, NYCN has notified relevant authorities responsible for youth affairs, including the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi. Additionally, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police has been briefed on the matter, with a call for urgent action to prevent further fraudulent activities.
NYCN clarified that Comrade Shamsu Ibrahim Shamo remains the legitimate chairman of the Katsina chapter, and no election is currently scheduled. The council emphasized that only its national headquarters has the authority to organize elections for state chapters, as stipulated in its constitution.
Furthermore, the organization urged the public—particularly local government authorities, youth organizations, and Katsina's young population—to remain vigilant against these fraudulent actors. It warned youths not to participate in any election organized by these individuals, as doing so would be a waste of time, money, and effort.
To ensure transparency and fairness, NYCN assured that any official election in the Katsina chapter would be properly announced to all stakeholders, including youths, local government authorities, and youth organizations, through appropriate channels.
The council also called on security agencies to take immediate action against those attempting to create confusion among young people in the state. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of Nigerian youths and preventing any form of deception that could harm them.
Finally, NYCN urged Katsina youths to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. The council reiterated its dedication to truth, justice, and integrity in all its affairs while continuing to safeguard the rights of youths in Katsina and across Nigeria.
